9 killed, over 30 injured in Yapei accident

9 persons have been confirmed dead and 30 others left with different degrees of injuries the Yapei accident on Saturday dawn.

The Yapei accident occurred after a Kumasi bound Yuntong bus with registration GC 5148- Z collided head-on with a Kia bus with number GT 5892- 16 at Yapei in the Central Gonja District of the Northern Region.


According to the Northern Regional Police PRO, ASP Mohammed Yussif Tanko, the incident occurred at about 12:30 am on Saturday involving a Kumasi bound Yuntong and a Kia bus. 

ASP Mohammed Yussif Tanko said “Investigations at the accident spot revealed that Yutong bus with registration number GC 5148 Z was travelling from Tamale to Kumasi whilst Kia bus with number GT5892-16 was also travelling from Kumasi towards Tamale with passengers on board both buses”, 


In the Yapei accident, about 30 passengers onboard both buses got injured and were rushed to Tamale Teaching Hospital whilst Nine (9) of the passengers died instantly.
