Normalcy is returning to the town of Denkyira-Oboasi in the Central Region as residents return to their homes.

They fled following a military swoop to search for the killers of an army Captain Maxwell Mahama, who was lynched by some people of the town on suspicion he was an armed robber.

The army in an operation on Tuesday rounded up over one hundred residents as part of its investigations into the circumstances that led to the gruesome murder.

Reports from Denkyira-Oboasi say residents are heeding the army call to return to their homes as it rounds up the operation.

Chief of Army Staff, Maj. Gen. William Anyamdo in an interview on JoyNews had assured there would be no reprisal attacks and residents are free to go about their duties so long as they did not take part in the killing.

People of the town are said to be trickling back into their homes, buses have been seen bringing back residents into the town, shops and businesses are opening and the streets are gradually filling up.

Five people have so far been arrested in connection with the murder and are in the custody of the Central Regional Police Command which has taken over investigations.

Meanwhile JoyNews reports the Assembly man of the area, who is suspected to have led the mob that lynched the soldier is still on the run, contrary to reports yesterday that he had been arrested.
