Paying winning bonuses to the Black Stars is "unethical", former striker, Kim Grant has stated.

Though the Stars AFCON 2017 qualifying bonus was recently reduced to $8,000, the World Cup qualifying bonus remains $10,000 of which many have backed as motivational.

But according to Grant, patriotism should be the key motivation.

“I don’t even think they should get bonus at all, why should they? They are playing for the flag (Ghana) and that is enough motivation. They earn enough money playing [with] lucrative contracts in the premier leagues and elsewhere.

“So this is just a token gesture for them but for them to scribble over $10,000 I think it is ‘nonsense’ that is my opinion. Every player has a different perspective playing for the national team and if money is their motivation then they don’t need to be selected at all”, he said on Starr FM on Tuesday.

Ghana faces Uganda on October 3, 2016 in their first match in the Russia 2018 qualifiers.
