Ghana marks 22nd National Best Teachers Award today

The 22nd National Best Teacher's Award will be held today in Sunyani in the Bono Ahafo Region. The award is to honour and appreciate the work of teachers over the years.

According to the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Education, Francis Gbadago, 205 teachers would be awarded which will include retired teachers, foreign volunteers and national service personnel.

“We are looking at about a total of 105 teachers from all categories and even apart from these we are also looking at retired teachers, national service persons and our foreign volunteers as well making a total of 205.”

Speaking on ‘Behind the News’ on Radio Ghana, he stated that government is doing everything possible to appreciate and motivate teachers. "Government is all the time doing everything possible to motivate teachers, this award scheme is one of them, remember we also have every good salary scheme for teachers. Teachers in this country are very well paid per assessment.”

He also added “we are improving the ICT system, we are also making sure we train teachers who are into ICT to handle the students, so quite a number of thing are ongoing to ensure we improve standards and ensure quality in our schools.”

Speaking to the organization of the event and their preparedness, he said: “I can confirm that all is set for tomorrow’s event, we would like to use this opportunity to thank our gallant teachers across the country for all that they have been all over the years.

Indeed this particular year we are honouring best schools as well, we started last year and this is a social intervention attached to the national best teachers award,” he submitted.
