Samira Bawumia, the wife of Vice-president, Mahamudu Bawumia, on Wednesday, suspended politics for radio presenting as part of activities to mark International Women's Day.

As at the time of writing this report, she was hosting the Super Morning Show on Accra-based Joy FM.

Samira was joined in the studio by the electoral commission chairperson, Charlotte Osei, former deputy finance minister, Mona Quartey, and Ama Sarpong.

On social media, she has received commendation for her performance on the programme.

"On International Women's Day, I am listening to Hajia Samira Bawumia, Second Lady, host Joy FM's Super Morning Show. She is so smooth and handles the show with aplomb, as if she has been doing it since December 1947 when Kwame Nkrumah returned to the Gold Coast. Hajia, you do all," Rodney Nkrumah-Boateng, a Facebook user, wrote.

"If we had an instant media monitoring and ratings system the numbers and curves for the Super Morning Show on Joy FM would be hitting the roof today," Francis Doku also said on Facebook.

International Women's Day, originally called International Working Women's Day, is celebrated on March 8 every year. It commemorates the struggle for women's rights.
