Bank of Ghana announces date for launch of new GH¢5 note

Following an earlier hint from the nation’s central bank, the Bank of Ghana (BoG) have confirmed its plans to release the new GH¢ 5 note by next month. 

The new GH¢ 5 note which will be launched in commemoration of the apex bank’s 60th anniversary will be in circulation from the 4th of March 2017. 

The GH¢5 denomination will serve as a legal tender and a collector's item.

The new note is said to have unique features which are sensitive to touch to enhance identification of the note by the blind and visually impaired as well as boost security.

Moreover, the nation’s central bank has repudiated speculations about its issuing of new denominations such as GH¢30, GH¢200, etc. as mere rumours.
