Deputy General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Koku Anyidoho has called on the party's followers to reject recent comments made by Special aide to former President John Mahama, Joyce Bawa-Mogtari that she would not be disturbed if the NDC stayed in opposition for the eight years.

According to Mr Anyidoho, supporters of the NDC must ignore such utterances, remain steadfast and brace themselves up for assiduous work to ensure the party wins back power in the upcoming 2020 elections.

Speaking on Starr FM's personality profile programme Starr Chat on Wednesday, Mrs Bawa-Mogtari, a former Deputy Minister of Transport and spokesperson for the NDC campaign during the 2016 general elections, stated categorically that she would not be bothered if the incumbent New Patriotic Party (NPP) ruled for more than four (4) years.

“Well I don’t really mind if NPP rules for eight (8) years, it’s democracy and really not an issue. When they lost, you can imagine how they felt when we moved into Flagstaff House and I know the feeling… We’ve all been there and that is the beauty of our democracy.”

However, Speaking on Kasapa FM's  News, Deputy General Secretary of NDC, Koku Anyidoho stated that  he and other national executives are determined to see the NDC return to power, and that Joyce Bawa-Mogtari’s comment are entirely hers and not the views of the party.

“Her locus is that she speaks for the former President, maybe she may be airing the views of ex President Mahama in a private conversation she’s had with him, she does not speak on behalf of the NDC. If she’s having a good time talking somewhere, she should concentrate on that and not make comments that may suggest her views are that of the NDC,..NDC will not be in opposition for 8 years.

“We are confident as a party that the over one million people who didn’t come out to vote for the NDC nor the NPP, we’ll engage them and they will in the next elections vote massively for the NDC in 2020, we are looking at Akufo Addo’s government as a one-term government. And so if Joyce Bawa is looking at the next 8 years for the NDC to return to power, then she’s lost it”, he stated.
