Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has donated GH¢200,000 to traders affected by the recent fire at the Kantamanto Market.
The incident on Thursday, January 2, destroyed several shops and displaced many traders.
Speaking to the victims, Dr. Bawumia assured them that the government would provide support, stressing the need for a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
In addition to the government’s support for the rebuilding process, Dr. Bawumia pledged to take measures to prevent future disasters in the market.
He proposed the installation of CCTV cameras around the market once it is rebuilt while donated GH¢200,000 to assist with their immediate needs.
“We will investigate the incident to ascertain the cause of the fire. Coming here, I have seen that work has commenced and I am happy. With the little help we can offer, we will bring that on board to ensure that the market becomes a befitting one. I know you need a lot of items to put up on the market. We will do well to help you with those”.
”When we finish the market, there is something I want to propose. We have to ensure that we establish an internal security. Apart from the internal security, I will ensure that we install CCTV cameras around the market. Even though we are getting out of the office, I will personally ensure that the cameras are brought and installed.”
