There was confusion at the Ghana School of Surveying and Mapping when students and land guards clashed over what the latter describes as an invasion and possible sale of the school land.
The students also accuse the land guards of disrupting a scheduled press conference by hurling stones at them.
Speaking on StarrFm in Accra, the vice president of the school Isaac Kwabena Agyapong, said the institution shall not sit idle for the school lands to be sold out.
“We went on holidays and we returned to find out that our school lands have been sold to a private developer to be used for a shopping mall and it’s not fair to us.â€
Mr Agyapong warns there will be no land available for the school’s practical activities, which cover over 80% of the curricula if the rampant encroachment continues. According to him all attempts to resolve the situation peacefully and amicably have proven futile.
The Ghana Police Service was called in to maintain peace and order at the scene.
