The Ghana Education Service (GES) has cautioned heads of basic schools against imposing unauthorised Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) registration fees on final-year students.
In a press release dated Wednesday, February 12, 2025, GES acknowledged social media reports about some school heads charging unapproved fees.
The agency emphasised that these charges are illegal and directed all school heads to cease the practice immediately.
GES has instructed Regional and District Directors to monitor and caution schools involved in this act. Additionally, any school head who has already collected such fees must refund them immediately. Failure to comply will result in sanctions.
The statement also reminded schools that late registration of candidates will not be allowed. All eligible students must be registered within the official period set by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).
GES urged the public to take note of this directive, reinforcing its commitment to ensuring a fair and transparent registration process.
