Mahama promotes new Service Chiefs of Ghana Armed Forces

President John Mahama has announced the promotion of new leadership for the Ghana Armed Forces, effective Monday,  March 24, 2025.

Acting on the advice of the Armed Forces Council, the President has appointed the incoming Chief of Defence Staff, Service Chiefs, and Chief of Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Spokesperson to the President, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, following the swearing-in of the Council.

The promoted officers include:

  • Brigadier General William Agyapong – promoted to Major General, appointed Chief of Defence Staff

  • Brigadier General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu – promoted to Major General, appointed Chief of Army Staff

     
  • Commodore Godwin Livinus Blessing – promoted to Rear Admiral, appointed Chief of Naval Staff

  • Air Commodore Eric Agyen-Frempong – promoted to Air Vice Marshal, appointed Chief of Air Staff

  • Air Vice Marshal Joshua Lartei Mensah-Larkai – appointed Chief of Staff

In the statement, President Mahama, who is the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, expressed confidence in the new military leadership.

He urged them to serve with patriotism, unity, and courage in protecting Ghana’s security and sovereignty.
