The government has pointed out that the country will soon begin exporting teachers to neighbouring countries.
According to the government, this is part its agenda to create employment for many of the country’s youth with the required qualification for teaching.
Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, Minister of Education, explained that should the proposal work out, Ghana stands to benefit from Francophone countries who are willing to interchange French tutors for English teachers.The Minister said the arrangement is high on government’s agenda speaking at the Meet the Press Series.
“Training for export is high on the agenda. I had a meeting with the World Bank more than two weeks ago where they would want Ghana to open up and bring in fellow African countries who are in more dire situation than ourselves like Liberia and Sierra Leone, to train their teachers and export teacher to them in the interim,†he said.
The Senior Minister, Yaw Osafo Maafo made a similar call in 2017 during the celebration of International Youth Day. He said the country was considering sending some of its skilled unemployed youth overseas in exchange for money.
He added that many countries are in search of skilled Ghanaians to employ them, therefore the government can train such persons including nurses for the international level.

Mr. Maafo said the export will give many unemployed youth an employment opportunity.
“We have to train our nurses for the international level,†he said.
 The National President of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), Mr. Kwaku Adjei, said in 2007 that it was laudable, and urged the government then to take advantage of the situation and benefit from its skilled professionals.
