A devastating fire has killed a nurse who works at the Kumasi South Hospital and her three children at Gyinyase in the Asokwa Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
The fire that broke out in the early hours of Saturday trapped the nurse, Linda Agyemang, and her family in their three-bedroom home.
Due to the intensity of the flames, rescue efforts by the residents became impossible.
Firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) who arrived at the scene rescued three other occupants of the house after struggling to access it.
They, however, found the four victims burnt beyond recognition in the bathroom after they managed to douse the fire.
Speaking to the media, the Ashanti Regional Public Relations Officer for the Ghana Fire Service, DO II Peter Addai, confirmed the incident.
“At 44: 08 – 44: 32At 4:36 AM on 8 February 2025, we received a distress call reporting a fire at Gyinyase near Tubi hotel. We quickly dispatched our fire tenders to attend to the fire. When we got there, the fire was wild alright, so we called for a second attendant to help. We lost four people in that fire, but the cause of the fire is still under investigation,” he said.
Meanwhile, the three rescued are currently receiving treatment at the Kumasi South Hospital.
The charred bodies have also been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) for preservation, pending police investigation into the cause of the fire.
