NPP National Council dimisses petition to petition centralise August 26 election

The National Council of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have rejected a petition submitted by nine flagbearer aspirants urging for the party's upcoming August 26 election to be centralised.

The aspirants, except Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, contended that a centralised election would ensure better efficiency and transparency in the process. They expressed concerns over the decision to limit voting to only 900 delegates at the regional level.

However, following a crucial meeting held on Thursday, July 20, 2023, the National Council decided to uphold the party's constitution and proceed with the planned decentralised election.

Speaking to journalists, the General Secretary of the NPP, Justin Koduah, confirmed that the party will maintain its original plan for the election.

As per the NPP's constitution, the presidential aspirants will be reduced from 10 to five during the August 26th election.

The party acknowledges the need for a new register due to the passing of some delegates. Justin Koduah assured that the new register is currently in its final stages of compilation and will be ready by the end of the week.

He further explained that the special electoral college for the election will consist of between 900 and 1000 delegates, ensuring a fair representation and a smooth voting process.
