Former NPP MP for Ledzokuku, Dr Bernard Okoe-Boye, has said while the retort to the Aflao Paramount Chief was firm, it was not disrespectful.

According to the former Deputy Health Minister, the Paramount Chief, Torgbui Adzonu-Gaga Amenya Fiti V, failed to use the appropriate words in his attempt to push for completion of the school building.

“If you are a chief and the project is not going the way it should, the tone and the way you speak is not to give ultimatums if you appreciate the dynamics of governance. I agree that the response of the President was stern…it is a response that is firm,” Dr Okoe-Boye.

Speaking on Joy News’ current affairs programme, Newsfile on Saturday, October 23, 2021, the former MP said his experience in lobbying for funds for projects in his constituency has taught him that the approach is to proceed with caution and respect to those in charge.

He said it is not true that the E-Block started under the erstwhile John Mahama administration has been abandoned.

“This government too has committed resources to the project…so it is committed,” he stressed.

The Paramount Chief, Torgbui Adzonu-Gaga Amenya Fiti V, had demanded that the government swiftly commissions the almost completed but abandoned Senior High School project in his town.

Torgbui Fiti V, who said he had become frustrated by the lack of school buildings in his town, demanded that government opens the GHS 9 million school complex within four months.

However, during an interview on a radio station as part of activities on his tour of the Greater Accra Region, President Nana Akufo-Addo said there are plans to complete all school projects, insisting that there is no deliberate plan to abandon the projects.

The President then retorted that if the Paramount Chief feels strongly about the project, he can complete it himself.

Many NDC bigwigs have criticised the reaction as disrespectful to the chief.
