Deputy Minister of Communications has described as unfortunate comments made by  President Uhuru Kenyatta to the effect that the Supreme Court judges undermined the will of the people by annulling the presidential elections results.
The Supreme Court of Kenya on Friday, September 1, nullified the August 2017 presidential results and ordered new poll should be held within 60 days.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission on August 11 declared incumbent, President Uhuru Kenyatta, the winner of 2017 election in Kenya. But the main opposition candidate, Raila Odinga, claimed that the commission's IT system had been hacked to manipulate the results.
In an address from Kenya’s State House, President Kenyatta said he will respect the decision of the court and seek re-election.
“I disagree with it because millions of Kenyans made their choice and six people have decided that they will go against the will of the people,†he said.
He added “Let me ask every single Kenyan, wherever they may be, whatever they may be doing, whoever they may be with – take the hand of your brother, take the hand of your sister and shake it and say ‘amani’. Peace. Peace. And I repeat again peace. Your neighbour will still be your neighbour regardless of whatever has happened. The man or woman who sits with you, who resides next to you, will still be your neighbour regardless of their political affiliation, regardless of their religion, regardless of their colour, regardless of their tribe. My primary message today to every single Kenyan is peace. Let us be people of peace.â€
Later when speaking to supporters of the party, My Kenyatta lashed out at the Judges saying they had subverted the will of the people.
Commenting on the happenings in Kenya on TV3’s Saturday, The Awutu Senya West MP George Andah said “For you to say that six people have decided to overturn the decision of the people of Kenya is most unfortunate because this case was under the provision of the Constitution.
“They (SC Judges) are doing what the framers of the constitution have given them, so it is not like they have decided to sit somewhere and then overturn it. When you start making such comments it is really not necessary."
He added that Kenyatta’s call for peace is positive but the ‘attack’ on the six judges was most unfortunate and as a matter of urgency, Kenyans must be guided by the rule of law as they count the days to vote again.
