The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is set to hold a ‘thank you tour’ in the Assin North constituency from Friday, July 7 to Sunday, July 9, over James Gyakye Quayson’s victory.

The party’s candidate, James Gyakye Quayson, won the by-election by 57.56 percent, seeing off Charles Opoku of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Bernice Enyonam Sefenu of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG).

The NDC will begin its Thank You Tour with Muslim prayers at the Central Mosque in Breku, the district capital, on Friday.

There will be two Thanksgiving Services at the SDA Church and Saviour Church, both in Breku, the next day, Saturday, July 8.

Victims of the Assin Dansame accident will be visited later on Saturday before a community soccer gala is hosted at Assin Breku.

On Sunday, July 9, a non-denominational Thanksgiving Service is scheduled to be held at the Breku Catholic Youth Centre, where the leadership of the community as well as NDC will congregate.

It will herald a mammoth rally to be staged at the Breku Methodist School Park later that day..

The Special Guest of Honour will be the 2024 flagbearer of the NDC, John Dramani Mahama.

Mr Gyakye Quayson will also be mounting the stage to address his constituents.

Meanwhile, the Assin North lawmaker is currently being tried for forgery and perjury after he was charged by the Attorney-General’s Office.

He is also accused of deceiving a public officer and knowingly making a false declaration when he filed nominations to contest in the 2020 election when he had not renounced his Canadian citizenship.

However, he has filed a motion on notice at the High Court for a stay of proceedings, pending an appeal.

The applicant is praying the court for an order to stay the proceedings in the court pending the determination of the appeal filed in the Court on June 27, 2023.
