Reports circulated that the black stars threatened to boycott matches at the World Cup in Brazil following delay with regards to appearance fees and bonuses.
However, Michael Essien denied the story and said the journalist who fabricated the story is 'stupid'
“Nobody had to boycott the match, it is an official game and we cannot say we will not play so whoever came out with that story is very stupid,â€Â Michael Essien said.

The report went viral which induced the then-President John Dramani Mahama ordered the lifting of cash from Ghana to Brazil following the players' impatience.
