Nigeria announce coaching staff to face Black Stars in World Cup playoff

The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF have announced their coaching team to face the Black Stars of Ghana in next month's World Cup playoff.

According to the NFF, caretaker coach Augustine Eguavoen will be in charge of the Super Eagles for the March encounter.
 

Black Stars forward Joel Fameyeh assists victims of Apiate explosion

Ghanaian International Joel Fameyeh has donated GHS10,000 in relief items to support the victims of the Apiate explosion.

This was after the Appiate explosion that killed at least 14 people in the Western Region town and injured scores last month.

The donation from Joel Fameyeh included bags of Omo, packs of soft drink, plastic buckets, babies’ diapers, mosquito coil and some cement bags, all amounting to GHC10,000.

Senegal President rewards team with land and cash prizes after AFCON triumph

Senegal President Macky Sall has rewarded each member of the football team with cash prizes and plots of land following their win at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Each team member received more than $87,000 (£64,000) and plots in the capital, Dakar, and in the neighbouring Diamniadio city during a ceremony at the presidential palace.

President Macky Sall also appointed the team to the Senegal’s prestigious Order of the Lion, with fans cheering outside the gates.

The president had earlier thanked the team for reaching the “summit of Africa” and for bringing “pride and honour that marks great people”.

Inter Milan march into Coppa Italia semis after beating Roma

Edin Dzeko and Alexis Sanchez scored as Inter Milan beat Roma in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals.

Dzeko gave Inter a second-minute lead against his old club with a powerful volley from Ivan Perisic's cross.

Nicolo Barella's long-range strike hit the bar after six minutes as Inter dominated early on at the San Siro.

Alexis Sanchez's 25-yard drive into the top corner settled the tie and Jose Mourinho's Roma lost England striker Tammy Abraham to injury late on.

EPL: Manchester United held at Burnley, Newcastle out of relegation zone

Manchester United tumbled out of the Premier League's top four as Jay Rodriguez's first goal in 50 league games earned bottom club Burnley a precious point at Turf Moor.

For the second game running, United dominated the play and had most of the chances, with Paul Pogba putting them ahead with his first goal of the season.

But just as against Middlesbrough in the FA Cup, the visitors were made to pay for their profligacy.

On this occasion, they had two first-half goals disallowed, while Nick Pope made excellent saves to deny Marcus Rashford, Edinson Cavani and Raphael Varane.
