The Black Princesses of Ghana suffered a 4-1 loss to Japan in the 2024 FIFA Women's World Cup at the El Techo Stadium in Bogotá.

This is Ghana's second straight defeating following the loss against debutants Austria in the ongoing competition.

The Japanese started on a blistering note and opened the floodgates but the goal was disallowed.

After thirty-two minutes in the game, there was a huge appeal for a penalty after Fuka Tsunoda appeared to have fouled Stella in the box but the referee after consulting VAR changed his decision.

The deadlock was finally broken on the 44th minute after Chinari Sasai pounced on a huge clanger to score and give Japan the lead.

Few moments later, Manaka Matsukubo was put through with a good pass and nutmegged Afi Amenyeku to double their lead before half time.

Just four minutes into the second half, Miku Hayama was also picked on the left as she comes in field to calmly slot into the net to increase the tally for the Young Nadeshiko.

On the 81st minute, Ghana were awarded a penalty and skipper Stella Nyamekye stepped up and sent the goalkeeper the wrong way to pull one back.

In the dying embers, the Blues restored their three-goal lead after substitute Miyu Matsunaga made a daring run to struck into bottom right corner of the net.

The defeat on Thursday night means Ghana will now have to win their final group game against New Zealand and hope they make the cut as one of the best third-placed teams in the group stages to advance to the next round.

The game against New Zealand is scheduled for Sunday, September 8.
