Ghana will soon witness the construction of its first private-owned Bitumen plant.

This is based on a disclosure by the potential facilitators of the project and leading Bulk Oil Distribution Company – GOIL.

In an encounter with the media – Chief Operating Officer at GOIL, Alex Josiah, disclosed that the plans for the project was near its implementation stage.

“We have gone very far and I’m sure not too long, you will see us cutting the sod for the construction the bitumen plant. I can assure you, it’s going to be one of the modern plants we have ever had in the country”, he said.

The plant which will be sited at Tema – on its completion, is expected to produce an average of 10,000 metric tonnes of bitumen which will in turn, feed the high demand for the product as projected in the new year (particularly, on the basis of the ongoing as well as planned road construction projects in the new year).

The estimated over US$20 million project forms part of GOIL’s long-term target of controlling at least 30% of Ghana’s market for petroleum products by 2020 and has a significant potential for creating thousands of jobs in the country.
