Sources close to the Bank of Ghana (BoG) have hinted on the apex bank’s decision to blacklist fraudulent mobile money operators in the country.
This, the central bank intends to facilitate through the introduction of electronic-based agent registry which is designed to monitor the activities of operators who flout the Electronic-Money Issuers (EMI) and Agent Guidelines.
Commenting on the proposed e-agent registry - Solomon Hayford, pointed out that all telcos in the country will have access to the registry and it would consequently, stall the activities of the fraudulent mobile money operators on any of the telecommunication networks in Ghana.
“So, what will happen is that once an agent has been blacklisted from MTN or any of the other telcos, that information will be on the agent registry and will prevent that agent from coming on board for any other mobile money service,†he said.
He stressed that once an agent is blacklisted on the registry, “he is blacklisted from the industry forever and cannot operate mobile money anywhere in Ghana with any service providerâ€.
