Goods and services coming into the country will now be disinfected at their Points of Entries (PoEs) across various Ports.
This follows a partnership deal between government via the Ghana Health Service (GHS) and international crisis management and prevention company - LCB Worldwide.
Information made available to the media revealed that the GHS signed a service contract with the firm to disinfect all imports at the country’s entry points, effective January next year - 2018.

Under the arrangement, tunnel-like scanners will be installed at the ports to enable trucks carrying imported cargo to drive through for organic chemicals to be sprayed on the goods, in order to eliminate any hazardous or infectious disease before the goods get onto the market or to the receiver (consignee).
The move by the government is in line with laid-down bio-security measures of the International Health Regulations (IHR) and will certainly, serve as an effective response to Ghana’s need to be proactive in dealing with public health issues.
The IHR had recommended that various member countries to adopt the routine and emergency measures at designated points of entry – particularly, decontamination procedures at international container terminals, ports, airports and ground crossings.
