Chairman of COCOBOD Hackman Owusu Agyeman has reiterated government’s commitment to hitting a one million metric ton cocoa production target.

In an interview on CitiFM after touring some cocoa processing companies in Tema, the COCOBOD chairman said the president is determined to follow through with his promise to increase production and the processing of cocoa beans to 50 percent.

“We are going to work at increasing the output. If we are able to do that then we can feed the local processors with the amount of beans they need to reach the 50%,” he added.

Government intends to roll out policies to incentivise cocoa farmers to beef up production. The policies include the resumption of the free cocoa spraying exercise which collapsed under the NDC government.
