Esther Gyebi Donkor, Public Relations Manager at the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) has blamed the Meridian Port Services (MPS) for the missing containers and vessels at the Port.

She said MPS has been working as a terminal operator within the Port since 2017, therefore the old agreement signed was meant to give MPS full autonomy to handle all container vessels that came to the Port.

Explaining further on news and current affairs programme ‘Behind the News’, Madam Gyebi Donkor said as far as GPHA is concerned; no official statistics have been presented to them suggesting that some containers cannot be accounted for at the Port.

A recent case of a missing vessel was reported in June this year, ten 20-footer containers being escorted by the national security from one terminal to another within the Tema port enclave went missing.

According to reports, the confiscated containers full of canned tomatoes were being moved from the Tema Container Terminal (TCT) to Atlas at a distance of about 9.9 kilometers.
