Minister-designate for Communications, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful said, she does not have issues with telecommunication giants Airtel Ghana though she is battling a court case with Zain since 2009.
The Minister-designate was an employee of Zain till 2009 when she was sacked for his political engagements in the media.
According to Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful who appeared before the Appointment Committee of Parliament, the court issue has nothing to do with Airtel but Zain Ghana and its parent company, MTC International Corporation which has sold its holding in Africa to Airtel.
Moreover, she said, there have been moves to settle the matter for some few months now which is at the concluding stages.
“Zain is no more working in the country. The company now is Airtel and they have nothing to fear about me. The actors have changed, the company has changed and the nature of the case is personal and not professional. I will deal with Airtel in a manner that is in the best interest of the nation and assist them as a company to grow,†she stated.
She stressed that “I do not see any potential problems particularly if the moves to settle the matter out of court comes to reality. The current managers and board of Airtel know that they have a friend in me and negotiations are far advanced to solve the issue.â€
Narrating details of the issues she said it is poorly a human right issue as she felt she was wrongfully disengaged by Zain in 2009.
“I was working with Zain until 2009 and on January 8, 2009 was handed a letter, disengaging me from the company indicating that my public appearances in the media were becoming an embarrassment to the company. I took them to the human right court that they had infringed my right of free expression and association. So, it poorly a human right matter and had nothing to do with the work or professionalism,†she explained.
