John Jinapor engages CSOs in Energy Sector

The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has expressed worry over the mounting debt of the Energy Sector.

He said the rate at which debts in the sector keeps pilling, it has become imperative to take drastic measures to save the sector from collapse.

John Jinapor made this statement at CSOs’ Engagement with the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition on the Challenges of the Energy Sector and the Way Forward in Accra on Tuesday, March 18, 2025.

The Minister mentioned that the current liabilities of the sector stood at 80 billion Ghana Cedis with the Electricity Company of Ghana’s (ECG) liability amounting to over 60 billion Ghana cedis which according to him is not sustainable.

He therefore called for stringent measures to prevent major setbacks in the sector. He stated that one of the key issues identified so far is the financing of the energy sector which the Minister requested the CSOs to help find solution to avoid major crisis in the energy sector.

Jinapor assured the CSOs of the Government’s commitment to working to improve the Energy Sector for the maximum benefit of the people of Ghana.
