Mahama appoints Dr Alhassan Iddrisu as acting Government Statistician

President John Mahama has appointed Dr. Alhassan Iddrisu as the Acting Government Statistician, pending further consultations with the Council of State.

The announcement was made in an official statement released by the Presidency on Friday.

Dr. Iddrisu, an economist and public sector leader, brings a wealth of experience to the role. Currently serving as the Director of the Economic Strategy and Research Division at the Ministry of Finance, he has been instrumental in shaping Ghana’s macroeconomic policies.

His responsibilities include leading national efforts in economic forecasting, policy research, and coordinating assessments of Ghana’s real and external sectors.

With a career spanning over a decade in key government roles, Dr. Iddrisu has held several high-level positions, including:

  • Director, Economic Research and Forecasting Division (2013–2019): Oversaw macroeconomic modelling and long-term economic projections.
  • Acting Director, Real Sector Division (2010–2013): Led research on sectoral growth and productivity trends.

He also represents the Ministry of Finance on multiple governing boards and technical committees, where his expertise influences critical policy decisions.

A part-time lecturer at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), Dr. Iddrisu holds a PhD in International Development Studies from the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies in Tokyo, Japan. He also earned a Master of Public Administration (Public and Economic Policy) from the London School of Economics, an MPhil in Economics, and a BA in Economics with French from the University of Ghana.
