The acting Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Edudzi Tameklo, has committed to implementing strategic measures to lower fuel prices and ease the financial burden on Ghanaians.
His assurance comes amid soaring fuel prices, which continue to strain consumers.
In January, for example, state-owned GOIL increased petrol prices from GH₵14.99 per litre to GH₵15.29, while diesel rose from GH₵15.60 to GH₵15.77.
Similarly, Shell raised its petrol price from GH₵15.30 per litre to GH₵15.59, with diesel climbing from GH₵15.66 to GH₵15.79.
These hikes have been largely driven by global crude oil price fluctuations and the persistent depreciation of the Ghanaian cedi.
To tackle the issue, Mr Tameklo reaffirmed the NPA’s commitment to stabilising prices through key reforms.
“We are implementing necessary reforms to ensure Ghanaians get cheaper, high-quality fuel. A dedicated team is exploring all possible avenues.
“President Mahama is determined to make fuel more affordable, reliable, and accessible for every household and driver,” he stated during a media engagement on January 28.
The NPA’s initiative aligns with its mandate to regulate the petroleum sector effectively while protecting consumers and industry stakeholders.
