Telecel has become the official title sponsor for the iconic Ghana Music Awards.
The premiere and topmost music awards scheme in Ghana, the Ghana Music Awards is the brainchild of Charterhouse Productions, and celebrates its 25th anniversary this year.
In 2011, Vodafone Ghana, two years after its advent in Ghana, assumed the title-sponsorship role for the GMAs. It took over from MTN Ghana.
In February 2023, Telecel acquired Vodafone Group's 70% shares of Ghana Telecom to become the majority shareholder, with government maintaining its 30%.
In view of the transition, on February 12, when the GMAs asked for music makers to submit names for nominations for its 2024 edition, it indicated no title sponsor.
On March 28, at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) during the formal launch of the 25th anniversary of the GMAs, it was officially announced the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs) had become Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs).
