One of Nigeria’s leading hip-hop artists, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has been adjudged “Best African Act†(BAA) for the year.
This was announced at the 22nd edition of the prestigious Music of Black Origin (MOBO) Awards which was held on Wednesday night at the First Direct Arena in Leeds, United Kingdom.
Artistes nominated for the “Best African Act†award included Wizkid, Mr. Eazi, Tiwa Savage, Wande Coal, Maleek Berry, among others.
In addition to the BAA, Davido also won the “Best Newcomer†beating Jorja Smith, Kojo Funds, Stefflon Don, Yxng Bane, and several other nominees.

However, though he and a host of others lost the BAA award, the famous starboy of Nigeria’s entertainment - Wizkid won the Best International Act: emerging tops in a category that had such global entertainment weights like, Drake, JAY-Z, SZA, Cardi B, Kendrick Lamar, etc. Â
At the international front, English Grime and Hip Hop artist, Stormzy, went home with the biggest awards for the night in three different categories: “Best Male Artistâ€, “Best Grime Act†as well as, “Best Albumâ€.
Meanwhile, the “Best Song†award went to J Hus for his blockbuster hit song, “Did You Seeâ€.
The MOBO event is organized annually in the UK to celebrate music artists of black origin from across the globe.
