Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has congratulated the 2023 West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) students for performing well in this year's examination.

According to him, their remarkable outcome was a result of hard work.

This comment comes after NDC flagbearer John Dramani Mahama challenged the authenticity of the recent results during his visit to the Mfantseman constituency as part of his ‘Building Ghana Tour’ in the Central region.

According to him, some invigilators relax on the job as teachers are found aiding students in answering questions.

“In many places, they let the children cheat. You go to places and the teachers are conniving with the students to cheat. The effect will be seen later,” Mahama said.

The former President believes the development will have dire consequences on the country’s educational system in future.

“You certify these children saying they are of this standard either the BECE or SSCE, and that child will use that certificate, go abroad to a school and they will find out that your qualification is not up to the standard you say it is”.

Bawumia however, thinks otherwise saying that the students have made Ghana proud due to dint of hard work

“Congratulations to all WASSCE students, their teachers as well as their parents for the excellent performance attained by the students in this year’s WASSCE. This is no doubt the result of hard work and dedication by all of you.

“You have made Ghana proud and I wish you the very best as you move on to greater challenges. Please don’t let anyone denigrate your achievements. Not everyone can appreciate what it takes to be an intelligent student. You have earned the excellent performances by dint of hard work. God bless you. I wish you all a happy new year.”
