Three suspects have been arrested by the police in connection with the alleged murder of a Chinese, at Watereso in the Amansie South District of the Ashanti Region.
The suspects believed to be illegal gold miners (galamseyers), were identified as Abdullah Mohammed, 45, Kwadwo Mensah 32, and Robert Agyei, 29.
They were supposed to be workers of the Chinese, Yao Xian, 52, a miner.
According to a police source, Xian was shot in the chest by some unknown assailants while riding a motorcycle at 11:00 AM at Manso Watreso.
The source said the Chinese clad in a club, t-shirt over black trousers, was found in a nearby bush on the Watreso Motor road with a deep hole in the chest suspected to have been sustained from a gunshot.
It said searches were conducted in the respective rooms of the suspects and one pump action gun (ASAR 2883 2014) with seven rounds of live ‘AA’ ammunition was found in Robert Agyei’s room.
According to the source, Agyei told the police that the gun had not been fired before, but inspection and examination of the gun proved otherwise.
The source said that some of the suspects were on the run, but they did not take away any valuables from the Chinese.
