The 37 Military Hospital has announced its intention to conduct a mass burial for identified but unclaimed as well as unidentified bodies on September 1.
The decision comes as a measure to alleviate the congestion at the hospital's morgue, which is hindering its daily operations.
In a statement released by the Ghana Armed Forces on August 2, the hospital encouraged the relatives of unclaimed bodies to visit the Department of Anatomical Pathology of the 37 Military Hospital between August 3 and August 31, 2023, to claim the bodies.
The public has been urged to assist in identifying the bodies before the scheduled mass burial on September 1, 2023.
The last time the 37 Military Hospital conducted a mass burial was in March 2017.
Here are excerpts from the statement:
“The 37 Military Hospital would like to inform the general public about an upcoming mass burial exercise for identified but unclaimed, as well as unidentified bodies in the hospital’s morgue. The continuous storage of these unclaimed bodies has led to congestion in the mortuary, affecting the efficiency of its operations.”
“Prior to the mass burial scheduled for Friday, September 1, 2023, we appeal to the public to assist in identifying the bodies. Relatives of the unclaimed bodies are urged to visit the Department of Anatomical Pathology at the 37 Military Hospital from Thursday, August 3, to Thursday, August 31, 2023, to claim the bodies.”
