Communal violence which broke out between two feuding factions at Lakula near Daboya in the Savannah Region has resulted in 4 casualties and person one in critical condition.
According to reports, the incident occurred yesterday August 15, 2019, at night and lasted for 45 minutes.Â
The incident was reportedly triggered by a misunderstanding over the construction of a mosque between the Gonjas and Mamprusi in the area. The Gonjas in the area wanted to build a mosque and the Mamprusi resisted their attempts which resulted in the clash.
Speaking to Starr FM, a health official at Mankarigu health Centre said the critically injured person has been referred to the Walewale district hospital
''We have received casualties and one has been referred to Walewale. We have discharged the ones who sustained machete wounds and the other has been transferred''.
However, a delegation by the Northern Regional Security Council (REGSEC) and District Security Council (DISEC) are heading to the area to meet with the paramount chief to engage the factions involved in the violence to bring a lasting solution to it.
The Regional Minister of the Savannah Region, Salifu Adam Braimah confirmed the incident and said the violence originated from a land dispute and that he is working with DISEC and REGSEC to ensure peaceful resolution in the area.
Meanwhile, more police personnel has been deployed to beef up security in the area.
