Six people lost their lives in a fatal accident on the Accra-Kumasi highway at Atwedie, near Juaso, on Friday, October 11, 2024.

The crash involved a sprinter bus with registration number AS 6313-16, traveling from Togo to Kumasi, and a VIP bus, registered AC 1550-17, en route from Tamale to Accra.

The accident reportedly occurred when the driver of the Sprinter bus attempted a dangerous overtaking maneuver, leading to a head-on collision with the VIP bus. Five passengers from the Sprinter bus and one passenger from the VIP bus were killed instantly.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene, transporting the injured to the Konongo Government Hospital for urgent medical care. The bodies of the deceased have been moved to the Yawkwei mortuary for preservation.

Assistant Officer John Boakye of the Asante Akyem Fire Station confirmed the incident to the media, stating that fire risks at the crash site had been neutralized to prevent any potential outbreaks.

He further urged drivers to exercise caution, reduce speeding, and prioritize safety to avoid such tragic accidents in the future.
