The Ministry of the Interior as part of efforts to transform the police force in the country will this year recruit an unprecedented 8000 officers into the service.

The move according to the Minister, Ambrose Dery is  aimed at restructuring the service and ensuring that their core mandates of protecting lives and properties are achieved.

"Transformation agenda of the police is not only for the police stations so part of it has to do with establishing more police points and recruiting more personnel with a target of 8000 this year,"he said on Accra-based Citi FM.

He added that, the police will also be well equipped and their conditions of service would be improved  especially in a time that they suffer all forms of attack in the line of duty.

Government he said would ensure every electoral area have about six police officers as part of the community police initiative to maintain law and order across the country.

The entire plan he said would bring a total transformation to the police service with adequate provision of logistics and personnel.
