Over three hundred (300) second year students of the Accra Technical University on Saturday June 17, boycotted their last paper for the second semester.

The students allege questions in the paper were not set by the course teacher and did not follow the format earlier agreed with the lecturer.

The stalemate began on Tuesday June 13, when the school’s examination council discovered the same questions for a course, Law of Contract and Agency, had been set for part time and fulltime students pursuing Science and Laboratory Technology. The part time students had taken the paper days earlier.  This compelled the examinations council to shift the examination date for the fulltime students from Tuesday June 13 to Saturday June 17 for new questions to be set.

According to Primenewsghana sources, the lecturer was asked to review the questions, but he failed to comply. The exams council therefore tasked another lecturer to set new questions to be taken on the new date.

However, 20 minutes into the paper on Saturday June 17 2017, the level 200 students began complaining that the new questions were not in the format agreed with the lecturer. They unanimously refused to go on with the exam and walked out of the hall.

Some students who spoke with Primenewsghana, on condition of anonymity said they expected the new questions to follow the format already communicated to them by the course lecturer.

President of Student Representative Council of the university, Peter Kumordzi has said the issue is before the school management. He is hopeful an amicable resolution would soon be found to address the impasse.
