President Akufo-Addo has expressed deep regret and grief over Thursday’s fire that devastated the Kantamanto Market.
Delivering his final State of the Nation address at Parliament on Friday, January 3, the outgoing President took the opportunity to sympathise with the affected traders who have lost huge investments due to the fire outbreak.
“I want to put on record that I am deeply saddened by the devastating fire at Kantamanto market which took place yesterday.
“My thoughts and prayers are with those affected and I extend heartfelt sympathy to the hardworking traders who have lost their investments,” Akufo-Addo noted.
He assured the victims of government’s immediate support to minimise the impact of the devastating fire, while calling on Ghanaians to extend support to the victims in any possible way.
“Government stands with you and will work with relevant agencies to ascertain the cause of the fire and to provide the immediate support.
“We can extend a helping time to our fellow Ghanaians in need during this challenging time,” he added.
A fire outbreak at Kantamanto market in Accra caused significant damage early Thursday morning. Over 100 shops were razed down in the blaze, which began around 1:00 am.
Traders, many of whom have poured their life savings into their businesses have now been left devastated as their life savings into their businesses have been lost.
