President Nana Akufo-Addo has sworn in Benjamin Barfo-Bonney as the new Deputy Commissioner of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ).
This was at a brief ceremony held at the Jubilee House.
The President administered the oath of allegiance, the official oath and the oath of secrecy to the new Deputy Commissioner.
President Akufo-Addo said the appointment reflected the government’s commitment to ensuring rights, promoting administrative justice, and deepening democratic governance in the country.
He noted that, with Mr Barfo-Bonney’s rich expertise and experience, the appointment made in October 2024 will help ensure Justice in matters that come before the Commission.
The President added that, although the role is demanding, he is confident that the new appointee will stand to the task.
Mr. Benjamin Barfo-Bonney was grateful for the confident repose in him and pledged to discharge his task competently.
The appointee has a doctorate in business leadership from the Swiss Business School in Zurich, a Master of Science degree in Defence and International Politics, Master of Law and International Law, and was called to both the Ghana and English Bars.
He succeeds late Deputy Commissioner, Richard Ackom Quayson who passed away unexpectedly on the 21st of March 2024, after a short illness.”
Mr. Quayson was appointed Deputy Commissioner of the Commission in August 2005, with oversight of the Commission’s anti-corruption mandate and public education and research.
He joined the Commission as a senior legal officer in 1993, having worked as legal officer of the predecessor institution of CHRAJ, the Office of the Ombudsman, from 1987 to 1993.
