Ghana’s youngest dancehall artiste Ebony Reigns, born Priscilla Opoku Kwarteng has been finally laid to rest after what Ghanaians describe as a befitting burial.
Ebony Reigns funeral service began as early as 5 am at the forecourt of the State House in Accra on Saturday, March 24, 2018.
Although the day began with some rains, that did not prevent hundreds of fans from rushing to the funeral grounds at exactly 5 am after returning from Ebony’s tribute concert. Most of them were prevented from entering at the time because organization was still ongoing and families of the late artiste were arriving.
The fans who were agitated at this complained that they had stayed up all night at the concert and wanted to just see their star Ebony before leaving to their houses. They were eventually let in after things had been put in place.
The energetic Ebony Reigns was dressed in a white gown, an African print scarf and glasses just like her look in the video of her hit song Maame Hw3; except this time, the once-vibrant artist was lying on a bed in a glass cage. People from far and near trooped in to take one last glance pay their last respect to the artiste.
Family and Friends could not hold back their tears as reality hit them that their youngest daughter and dearest relation-turned-celebrity is truly dead.
The funeral grounds was packed and the streets of Osu were flooded with die-hard fans of Ebony Reigns and other observers from different parts of the country. Traders took advantage to display all their goods as there was more than enough market for them.
Celebrity after celebrity trooped in to greet and exchange pleasantries with the family of the late dancehall act.
Some politicians notably Ade Coker, Nii Lante Vanderpuye, Sammy Awuku, Nana Oye Lithur, Freda Opare and many others came to bid farewell to Ebony Reigns.
The funeral service which is one of the most attended in Ghana saw heart-warming performances from many musicians including Cecilia Marfo, Rev Yawson, Kelvin boy, Dada King, Article Wan and others.
Prime News captured interesting photos of people who attended her funeral. The event was quite intriguing as you would find ‘strange’ dressings which would make you wonder if people actually came to mourn or came to showcase their ‘goods’.
Unfortunately, the spirit of theft was not absent at Ebony’s funeral service. Many reported of stolen belongings and the Police were able to arrest some suspects right on the spot.
Ebony was buried at the Osu Cemetery with her ‘Spiritual Father’, Dr Lawrence Tetteh leading the whole service.
Ghanaians will forever remember Ebony for her vibrant talent and unforgettable performances. She died in a gory accident on the Sunyani-Kumasi road on the 8th of February, 2018 with her friend and personal assistant Franky Kuri and Lance Corporal Atsu Vondee respectively.
