For Ghana to have an effective adherence to laws and swift justice delivery system, the attorney general must review its stance on legal education in the country.

That’s according the member of Parliament for Efuttu constituency and a member of Parliament’s Defense and Interior committee, Alexander Afenyo Markin.

The Supreme Court in a ruling declared entrance exams and its subsequent interviews by the General Legal Council (GLC) for entry into the Ghana School of Law as unconstitutional. According to the Apex court the act is in violation of Legislative Instrument 1296.

Commenting on the topic on JoyFms Newsfile program, the member of Parliament for Efuttu said in pursuant of the ruling the Attorney General must review its stance on legal education in the country.

He noted, the current regulations limit the individuals in the law profession making it difficult for Ghanaians to access the Justice system. Additional facilities must be created to help train more lawyers so that people in our remote communities can have access to an attorney.

Mr Afenyo-Markin believes if the country sees the urgent need of these, a lot can be achieved in our quest to bridge the gap to an attorney in our cities and the rural communities.
