Chief Superintendent Kwesi Ofori who is the Accra Regional Police Operations Commander has denied claims by DSP George Asare who is the East Legon District Commander that he was sidelined on the day of the Ayawaso by-election.
DSP George Asare who is the East Legon District Commander told the Emile Short Commission that he was sidelined on the day of Ayawaso by-election day and was not given any task.
According to DSP Asare, he was not given any reason for his exclusion but was told he “shouldn’t worry†when he contacted Chief Superintendent Kwesi Ofori.
This, Chief Supt. Ofori says was not the case as every officer within the Ayawaso Constituency was assigned on the day.
"Our operational order factored 46 senior officers from all the divisions who were tasked to work with the operational officers and the regional commander"
"When you refer to operational order 1-2019 pg. 3 which directs the divisional commanders to deploy their men, the district commander at East Legon is a subset of the Airport division, therefore being a subset he was part of that team and can't say he was not deployed"
"On that day I saw him in a Police Corolla going round on duty, therefore, I will be surprised he said he was not assigned he is a personal friend too so I have no issues with him"
The Commission further asked Supt. Ofori if DSP Asare called him on that very day of the by-election to ask why he was not assigned, he admitted to that.
"A lot of Officers called and being a friend he came to me to say he has not been deployed and I told him to refer to the operational order and being a district commander he has a responsibility not only on election day".
This latest testimony by Supt. Ofori contradicts earlier claims by DSP Asare that he was sidelined during the by-election.
