Police SWAT boss, DSP Samuel Azugu has admitted that the vehicles used by the masked security men involved in the Ayawaso by-election violence belong to the Ghana Police Service.
The statement from the SWAT boss contradicts that of the Interior Minister Ambrose Derry and Police Director of Operations, DCOP Alex Mensah that the vehicles used by the operatives on that day do not have GP numbers, therefore, do not belong to the Police Service.
DCOP Alex Mensah appearing before the Commission of Inquiry tasked by the President to probe the violence that coupled the Ayawaso by-election, said the vehicles used by the masked men with police logo inscribed on it do not belong to them.

But taking his turn today February 18 before the commission, DSP Samuel Azugu said the vehicles belong to the Police and are on charge at the National Security SWAT unit.
"Yes, it is a vehicle which is on charge as the National Security SWAT unit."
Explaining further, he said: "when I was taking over as the commander it was part of the vehicles that was given to me by my predecessor in the handing over notes, and my predecessor also took over from ASP Charles Badu."

According to not all police vehicles have GP numbers as earlier said by the other officers from the Ghana Police Service.
