Ambrose Dery who is the Interior Minister says the vehicle used by the masked men during the Ayawaso by-election violence was not a property of the Ghana Police Service.

Mr Dery today told the Commission of Inquiry who are investigating the violence and says that was information given to him by the Inspector General of Police David Asante Appietu.

The masked men who stormed the Bawaleshie polling station were in a vehicle with the inscription "Police-SWAT".

The minister added that although the police service is in charge of internal security, masked operatives active during the violence were not police officers.

This comments from the minister add to the growing concerns that the police were not in control of the violence during the 31st January 2019 by-election.

Minister of state in charge of National Security Bryan Acheampong has admitted that the masked men wearing NSC branded T-Shirts were national security operatives deployed by him.

The violence led to some people said to NDC members sustaining various degrees of injuries.
