Bawumia presents GHS5000 to bereaved families of Bagre Dam spillage

Vice President, Alhaji Dr Mahmoud Bawumia has presented GHS5,000 each to the bereaved families of the two people who lost their lives in the Talensi District as a result of the spillage of the excess water from the Bagre Dam in Burkina Faso.

The Vice President Bawumia arrived in Tongo and Talensi in the Upper East Region to inspect the impact and have first-hand information about the damage caused by the spillage of the excess water from the Bagre Dam in Burkina Faso.

He assured the people of Talensi of the construction of a multi-purpose dam in Pwalugu that will harvest the water from the Bagre dam and other benefits like the hydropower generation.

He told the chiefs and people who are mostly victims at a durbar that the government was deeply concerned about their plights.

The government delegation led by the Vice President has already visited some areas affected by the Bagre Dam spillage and the heavy rains in parts of the Upper East Region.

The Vice President said the president is much concern about the plight of residents in the Region and Ghana at large and has sent them to the Region to commiserate with the bereaved.

2952 farmers were affected by the Bagre Dam spillage in the Talensi District whiles 63 houses were collapsed. 

77 household latrines also collapsed in the Talensi District.
