The Founder of Alive Chapel International, Bishop Elijah Salifu Amoako, his wife, Mouha, and their sales assistant, Linda Bonsu Bempah, have been re-arrested moments after being discharged by an Accra Circuit Court.
This came after the Attorney-General withdrew the initial charges against the trio. However, moments after the discharge, police officers re-arrested them to face fresh charges in connection with a fatal accident involving their 16-year-old son, Elrad Amoako.
The Bishop, his wife, and their assistant were first arrested on October 15, 2024, after preliminary investigations suggested they allowed their underage son to drive the vehicle without a valid license.
On October 12, 2024, at East Legon, their teenage son drove their white Jaguar F-Pace Sports without a license. He collided with an Acura utility vehicle, which caught fire upon impact, resulting in the tragic deaths of two young girls.
Explaining the development, legal experts described the move as a procedural step often used in criminal cases when the prosecution deems the initial charges insufficient.
The prosecution can withdraw the old charges, re-arrest, and refile new charges to start the process afresh.
The Bishop and his co-accused are expected to be arraigned again as investigations continue into the circumstances that allowed the minor to operate the vehicle unlawfully.
