Paramount Chief of the Nungua Traditional Council, Nii Odaifio Welentsi III has called on Chiefs to desist from openly declaring their support for political parties and candidates.

Speaking during a call on him by Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah and members of the National Democratic Congress(NDC) at his Palace at Nungua in Accra, he said, Chiefs must stop associating themselves with political parties as they are supposed to be leaders for all.

“Stop declaring your support for any party as it would only create tension and unnecessary divisions among members of the community,” he stated.

He added that, “it is not the right way to go for chiefs and they must be guided by their utterances ahead of the elections.”

According to him, chiefs could have their political affiliations but should only declare their support by voting for their candidates on election day.

“Quietly vote for those you love and support as God in his own wisdom would ensure that the right candidate wins after the elections,” he stressed.

He also called on the parties not to engage in violence and must campaign responsibly for peace to reign in the country after the elections.

On his part, Mr. Debrah who began his tour of the Greater Accra region said, they visit was to explain some of the items in the NDC Manifesto to the chiefs and the people of Nungua.

The NDC he said is working to ensure that the capital looks very attractive and replicate other capital cities outside the country.

In addition, he said schools have also been built across the country to make education accessible to all and require another opportunity to continue their good work.

“In our next term, we would create more jobs for Ghanaians especially the youth which is paramount on Mahama’s second term agenda,” he stated.

He also asked for permission from the Nii Odaifio to begin their campaign at Nungua and its environs.
