The National Association of Charismatic and Christian Churches (NACCC), has condemned a video circulating on social media which sought to suggest that the founder of the Action Chapel International, Archbishop Duncan Williams, has denied his faith for apologizing to the Muslim community over some comments he made against the religion.
Â
NACCC in a statement said it is dismayed over the video since such was not the case adding that the video was produced by persons “who have no understanding of the wisdom, maturity and counsel behind such gestures.†Archbishop Duncan Williams is seen and heard in the video apologizing to the Muslim community for some unpleasant comments he made against them in one of his sermons. His comments had provoked anger among some Muslims in the country.
According to the NACCC, the video was an excerpt of a meeting between religious leaders from different faiths in the country in which “religiously sensitive statements were discussed†and “apologies were made by various personalities present and accepted in good faith in order to promote the long cherished peaceful coexistence among various faiths in Ghana.†“It is the position of NACCC and the ACI College of Bishops that those behind the said video either did not get the full video and therefore were misled into drawing such conclusions or are deliberately distorting the truth to achieve a certain aim.
“We at NACCC and the ACI College of Bishops support the amicable resolution of the matter and urge the general public to ignore any attempt by any group of faceless individuals who wish to undermine the long cherished peaceful coexistence among people of different faiths in this country.
The peaceful resolution of the matter is in tandem with our Christian belief in forgiveness, peace and reconciliation,†the statement added. The Association also cautioned Christians interpreting such a noble gesture by Archbishop Duncan Williams to mean denying his faith “to come to our secretariat for further information.â€
