The Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) has declared a nationwide strike in protest against the appointment of Samuel Adom Botchway, a politically exposed person, as the Registrar of the Births and Deaths Registry.

The announcement of the intended nationwide strike was captured in a statement issued on Thursday, February 13.

According to CLOGSAG, the National Executive Council (NEC) met on February 11, 2025, and decided to take industrial action if Mr. Botchway assumed office.

“The National Executive Council (NEC) decided that should Mr. Samuel Adom Botchway assume office as Registrar of Births and Deaths Registry, CLOGSAG should declare nationwide strike,” the statement read.

Mr. Botchway took office on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, prompting CLOGSAG to call for a nationwide strike from Thursday, February 20, 2025.

“We call on all CLOGSAG members to stay at home from Thursday, 20th February, 2025 until further notice,” the statement concluded.

The strike is aimed at protesting the politicization of the Civil Service and Local Governments, which CLOGSAG believes undermines the integrity of the service.

Meanwhile, the presidency has yet to officially comment on the nationwide strike declared by the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) in protest against the appointment of Samuel Adam Botchwey as Registrar of the Births and Deaths Registry.
